GPS / Geometria Poética Social was a site-specific exhibition by Argentine artist Agustina Woodgate that took the form of an installation at the Faena Art Center as well as several urban interventions all over the city. In Cathedral Room, Woodgate placed 175 pale spheres in haphazard fashion; made out of classroom-type globes that had been individually hand-sanded, the globes had been rendered mute - their previous meaning and identity almost worn away. Breaking the bounds of the traditional white cube gallery, Woodgate also chalked a giant hopscotch across Buenos Aires - 1692 hops long – which, according to the artist, “unite[d] the city with a ludic path.” Part geo-political commentary, part invitation to play, Woodgate’s work focuses on the encounter between people and ordinary objects when altered to the point of being almost unrecognizable.
